Dr. Valerio Chiurchiù is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work on the novel field of “Resolution of Inflammation” by understanding the biochemical and immunological mechanisms at the basis of the failure in timely resolving inflammation at a tissue- and cell-specific level in multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative diseases.
The position is financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (PRIN 2022) and is a partnership with the Department of Biology of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
The project aims at discovering inflammation-resolution defects in brain areas that are at the interface between the blood and the brain in multiple sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) and will involve the quantification of proinflammatory and pro-resolving lipid mediators and the identification of their cellular source within the brain as well as dissecting the cross-talk between immune and brain cells during inflammation by means of 2-D human cultures models of choroid plexus cells and brain microvascular endothelial cells with blood leukocytes obtained from MS and PD patients. The technical approach of the project is multidisciplinary: lipidomics, multi-dimensional flow cytometry, CyTOF, single-cell analysis and RNA-seq, epigenetics and bioinformatics.
