AINI AWARDS 2010

AINI has assigned the awards to the youngest and most deserving researchers this year too, on the occasion of the congress held in Stresa, from September 30th to October 3rd 2010.

The 10th Marco Vergelli Award has been assigned to Dr. Miriam Mattoscio from the Imperial College, London (UK) for the best oral communication. The study confirms the capability of Natalizumab treatment to induce haematopoietic stem cell mobilisation from bone-marrow but also a re-arrangement of immune cell subsets. It was delivered with excellent knowledge of the englishlanguage and data and efficiently presented, even during discussion.

The AINI Award for the best poster presentation was assigned to Dr. Livia Garzetti, from the Institute of Experimental Neurology, San raffaele Hospital, Milan. The study showed that both Th1 and Th2 activated microglia increase the shedding of plasma membrane derived microparticles and that such a mechanism has important role not only in inflammatory but also in non-inflammatory conditions.  The presentation was delivered with mastery and efficiency.
